Kenmare Lace
In 1864 the Poor Clare nuns under the leadership of Mother Abbess O’Hagan set upon a practical course to help the needy to help themselves by establishing an Industrial School in the Convent Building, where young girls were chiefly employed in producing lace. The tradition of making the Beautiful Kenmare Needle point lace is still carried out today at the Kenmare lace & Design Centre. There is an Exhibition of Antique lace from the convent Kenmare lace Design Centre at the Square Kenmare. As well as demonstrations, Lace & lace making materials can be purchased at the centre.
